Home roaster

Hello everybody. I would like some tips about roasters fot home use. I would like to avoid importing a roaster due to tax and import duties as well as service if it needed. I am currently having a consumption about 1,5 to 2 kg per month. I enjoy drinking Scandinavian /light roasted coffee. I am considered regarding the longevity of the machine, as well, as I have read a lot about some roasters. I have a budget at 30000 kr. I have checked roast rebels they have some discounts on hottop 2k and 2k+ though they have a price difference of 700 euros, but not sure if it worth it. I like the higher capacity that the have comparing to the kaffelogic/Nucleus. Nucleus Link and kaffelogic nano 7 is another option, but I would need some help if these two are better option than the hottop. Or if you have anything else to recommend!

In my experience the Kaffelogic (and by extension Nucleus) is a good choice for darker roasts but not ideal for very light.
I think the Hottop is a bit dated by now even though it used to be the premium option.

Where are you based?

Perhaps you can stretch the budget for an Aillio Bullet?
Another nice option seems to be the Cormorant and perhaps the import isn't bad if UK vat is deducted.

I have checked the cormorant but it ends up around 32k SEK when I used tullräknaren in order to check the price. Bullet is the best I have seen but is a big stretch I think. I was looking for a used but haven't find any. Another one was the Skywalker through aliexpress but not sure about quality (I have seen some posts that some parts are melting) and how is it going with the import tax.
Hottop is outdated a bit but quite well tested and proven to work. Another pro is the capacity comparing to Kaffelogic.
Kl has a big community though and is quite trustworthy. I have been through some forums and it seems that people are happy with it. I don't know if you own one, if so please do share some more info.

I live in Sweden, if I miss something with the import vat let me know

@Mixalis that sounds around the ballpark I also counted for when aiming for the Cormorant (gas, now also available w electric).
I was lucky to find a second hand Bullet when the shipment from Cormorant was delayed. A bit cheaper initially, but then I added the IR-sensor...
There are some user groups on Facebook, that I can recommend:

I did use a KL for about a year. Capacity was not much of a problem for personal use, as the automation is good (1st batch per session differs, but 2nd, 3rd etc. were indistinguishable to me).

You would need to spend about an hour per week to reach that consumption, but you can do something else while it's doing it's thing (don't leave it completely unattended because of the fire hazard).

I did not have good results with the profile you link to, nor any other for very light roasts. YMMV.

Drum roasters have given me much better results for light roasts on average, but they're also more effort so there is a tradeoff. If my target was medium or dark roasts I would've kept the KL.

I share your scepticism about the Skywalker, but don't have any hands on experience.

Thank you for your answers. I was hoping to find any good deals today for the Bullet but no luck so far. I will keep an eye on the groups that you mentioned @bauta in case shomething pops up.
@Jonken May I ask what roaster are you using now? On the KL that you had, did you had the extension tube as well?

Quest M3 or this simple, but laid back G400.

No extension and the old chaff collector. It was limited to roughly 100g. I guess the most recent version has the benefit that you can connect it to a computer and see the graph in real time, which will help some to determine when to drop light roasts if using a profile teetering on under development.

The Kaleido M6 might be of interest with that budget. They have both smaller and larger machines. They are based in China. I have bought an M2 and a M6 from them and didn't have to pay any import fees either time. I am not sure how they manage that...

Beware that the Kaleido (as the Skywalker) uses an infrared bulb as the heat source. Maybe the Kaleido manages the drawbacks of that system better than the Skywalker does, it does seem to have quite a few drawbacks.
